What a difficult choice! Only one?! I have to choose ginger. So versatile - sweet, savory, useful in several different ethnic cuisines.

Jo said...

Hard choice to pick from whats a great box but I have to go for cumin, its subtle aromatic almost perfumed taste is fab if you add to chilli con carne and a pinch in a stew is great too as well as a traditional curry.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I love cayenne. Mix up a cup of organic dark hot chocolate, and sprinkle some cayenne in, and it makes a wonderful winter treat. ^.^

It's a toss up between cinnamon and curry, but I'll have to go with CURRY. I eat it at least once a week!

Thyme is undoubtedly my favourite -it's so versatile and has been used for culinary, medicinal and aromatic purposes in its history.

Also it's mentioned by Shakespeare in Midsummer Night's Dream - it's a literary herb!

Plus it's a democratic plant - it lends fantastic flavour to all sorts of dishes from Coq Au Vin, to Spaghetti Bolognese, to Poor Person's Pizza.

If you don't know the latter, here is the recipe, for when you might be feeling a little stretched financially: take a piece of bread, cover it in tomato ketchup, grate some cheese over the top and finish with a sprinkle of thyme. Pop under the grill and voila -
Poor Person's Pizza! :)

This is hard, but if I can only choose one it will have to be thyme. Love it!
